Nitrogen in welding and manufacturing
Manufacturing uses nitrogen in specialized roles such as purging, shielding, cutting, or maintaining process atmospheres. It is not a universal substitute for other gases.
Process-dependent use
Some fabrication processes use nitrogen to displace oxygen or moisture; others use argon, helium, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, or mixtures. Material and process specifications determine the choice.
Equipment and work areas
Supply systems, regulators, hoses, ventilation, and monitoring matter. Nitrogen is colorless and odorless; releases can lower oxygen in enclosed areas. This page is an overview, not a procedure.
