Nitrogen in laboratories

Labs use nitrogen as a supply gas, instrument gas, carrier or balance gas, and cryogen. Suitability depends on analysis, purity, pressure, and equipment.

A nitrogen cylinder wears an identity badge while a chemist checks a chromatograph and regulator.

Cylinders and instruments

Compressed cylinders and fixed supplies are pressure systems. Regulators, compatible connections, secure storage, labels, and supplier safety data matter. Instrument purity must match the method.

Carrier gas and cryogen

Nitrogen can protect selected samples or serve instruments where validated methods specify it. Liquid nitrogen requires compatible vessels, ventilation, training, and controls against cold contact and oxygen displacement.

Fact capsuleA lab cylinder is not a giant test tube; both pressure and identity deserve a label.
