Nitrogen in beverages

Nitrogen gas can create a fine, creamy texture in some drinks, including nitrogenated beer and coffee. The effect depends on gas behavior, dispensing equipment, and formulation.

A bartender pours a nitro drink as two N₂ bubbles conduct the foam like a tiny orchestra.

Small bubbles and smooth pour

Nitrogen is less soluble in water than carbon dioxide under typical beverage conditions. Specialized dispensing can create fine bubbles and a cascading effect. It does not mean the beverage contains liquid nitrogen.

Do not mix up N₂ and N₂O

Nitrogenated drinks use N₂. Nitrous oxide, N₂O, is a different compound with distinct uses and risks. A drink's appearance says nothing by itself about alcohol content, nutrition, or safety.

Fact capsuleA nitrogen cascade may look dramatic, but its bubbles are not staging a molecular musical.
